Against all the howls of protest from your housemates, the heating has finally gone on; the Secret Santa’s sorted, and Christmas (along with that coursework deadline…) is creeping ever closer. There’s no doubt about it; winter is here, and as Notts grows nippier by the minute, a good old shop for some winning warmers is definitely in order. From snug scarves to toasty sweats (plus a cheeky Christmas jumper or two, obvs), Style Search has it covered… as usual, no matter what your tastes and style.
FASHION FORWARD
The A/W 14-15 runways were all about fur, feathers and general fuzzy fabulousness; but fizzed up in popping shades of fuchsia, neon and tangerine (think scarlet shearling at Prada and dusky rose goathair at Gucci). For a pretty take on the trend, look to this stripy stole in fluffy blush from ASOS, or the colour-block version in indigo and baby blue for a high-street hit of fashion-pack favourite Shrimps’ clashing colourways. If you’re feeling brave, these sumptuous sheepskin cuffs or Urbancode earmuffs in magenta marabou are the last word in bold brights; and the ultimate way to cheer up that boring black ensemble on the trudge to another 9AM!
Poodle-pink earmuffs a bit Barbie-girl for you? (Though that look is hot right now, see Moschino S/S 2015…) If you’re still not sold on Shrimps, buy into next season’s Seventies styles to fight the winter chill. Push the preppy angle with this Prada-lookalike pullover from Nasty Gal; or slip on this folk-fringe lovely from Scandi-brand Monki for a hint of Pucci-esque hippie-chic.
CLASSIC
Pay the perfect homage to the most beautiful of Brit heritage-stylings with Urban Outfitters’ fab selection of fairisle gloves, hats and scarves. These co-ordinating cuties will pull together the hastiest of campus getups with their pretty print, whilst their super-soft gloves are so cosy you’ll want to keep them on even after you’ve legged it into Clive Granger in time for your seminar! A cable-knit jumper in classic cream is the most iconic of cold-weather staples- this oh-so-snuggly buy from Jack Wills is a sales steal reduced from £69.50; the price may still seem a bit steep, but you’ll be wearing such a timeless piece for years. Mix it up for the festive season with ASOS’s crimson-trim Christmas crew-neck. Only accompaniment needed for the big day: a slash of sizzling red lippy.
GLAM
When the big chill sets in, a fabulous furry stole is any self-respecting starlet’s sure-fire way to fight the freeze, and this toasty tippet in mysterious midnight blue will keep you looking glam all the way to campus. Sweater-wise, a bit of sparkle will spice up any seminar-ensemble; go for the subtle look with this silvery Warehouse knit, or amp it up with full-frontal sequins for the Christmas Eve pub run. Finish off with raspberry lips, sultry smoky eyes and- for something special- these gorge gloves in black cashmere from Topshop. Simple enough for everywhere from Sainsbury’s to Starbs; luxe enough to make that long wait for the cutthroat 34 that bit more bearable, treat yourself now for toasty mitts all winter long.
EDGY
In warm waffle knit and soup-spillage-proof cotton (just me?), this Urban Outfitters exclusive jumper is the perfect seminar-sweater for the winter. Super-versatile in stylish slate, the acid wash adds just enough edge to set it apart from the campus crowd. Glitz it up with this geometric necklace in gorgeous champagne gold, or pair with a plaid scarf for a tantalising tinge of Brit punk. Work in a witty yet warming twist with a slogan beanie (word to the wise: both Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn have been spotted in the ‘Homies’ version; super-keen Cara owning it in three colours!) On the prowl for an edge-proof Christmas knit? Try this jolly jumper from- again- BDG at Urban Outfitters; super-cute with its penguin print; yet saved from the saccharine with its cool Aztec-pattern sleeves- a definite step-up from that tacky tinsel reindeer number at Primark!
What are your favourite winter warmers this season?
